LoveOne Molalla's pop-up event on September 17th was a last minute idea to help people have clean clothes during the recent devastation of wildfire in our area. We will still carry on with our normally scheduled event on Wednesday, September 23rd from 6pm-8pm, so please come celebrate our second anniversary since starting LoveOne Molalla!
We served 17 families and did 1,120lbs of fresh, clean laundry. OnPoint Community Credit Union donated hygiene supplies and local volunteers and community friends made the night possible, so thank you.
We listened to stories of evacuation due to the fires and heard stories of huge loss for some. Some of the stories updated me on areas I wasn’t aware of that had become a total loss like our beloved Molalla Corridor. These stories caused my heart to sink. This place where I was born and raised is experiencing some of the worst loss in Oregon’s history. These are the places I would run to for adventure and peaceful escape, our corridor and up above Sawtell to the mountains. Now, I can’t imagine what it must be like or how I’ll stay strong the next time I see these places I love. As one friend's story was ending, I suddenly had a picture come to mind and "hope" was the only word that would fit. I asked my friend if she realizes what this means for next year. She looked confused and I said, “We are going to have amazing crops and new growth that will make our land beautiful once again. Just like in life, we go through fires and come out shining like a diamond, so will our town.”
Many thanks goes out to our communities who’ve donated so much to help. To our volunteers who continue taking time out of their crazy schedules and giving to their neighbors. And of course to our first responders and fire crew thank you will never be enough to show you our appreciation and mad crazy respect for all you’ve done. Thank you to all and stay safe out there.
